Frances A. Hume, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, GPHR

Frances A. Hume is President/Owner of Hume ‘n Resources, an executive coaching and strategic human resources consulting firm located in Park City, Utah since 1998.  A human resource veteran of 38 years, she has been able to assist numerous companies and individuals with creative and strategic business solutions to complicated interpersonal and employee-related issues.  She was a Relationship Manager for Organizational Leadership and Strategy (OLS) at Brigham Young University, working with Marriott School of Business OLS faculty, Career Center, and graduate and undergraduate OB/HR and Strategy students.  She spent four years at Nature’s Way, an international herb and dietary supplement company now based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. While there, she was promoted to Executive Vice-President of Strategic International Development from her role of Vice-President of Human Resources. Prior to Nature’s Way, she was with Valtek International (now Flowserve), in the process flow industry, for 18 years leaving as Corporate HR Director.  
 
Frances graduated summa cum laude from the University of Utah with her MBA degree.  She is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), as a Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) and SHRM-Senior Certified Professional.  As an instructor and speaker, she has developed and taught a variety of leadership, management, HR, and business courses and seminars.  She is/has been a part-time adjunct professor for Utah State University, Brigham Young University, University of Utah, and Salt Lake Community College.  
  
An avid HR volunteer, Frances has served in numerous leadership roles for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) at the national, regional, state, and chapter levels since 1979. She has served on the National SHRM Foundation Board of Directors. She is a past HRM subject matter expert for the SHRM Learning System and taught the SHRM Learning System for SHRM around the US.  She served on the SHRM Area VI Board of Directors for seven years.  She is a past SHRM Utah State Council Director and a past President of the Human Resource Association of Central Utah (HRACU).  She was recognized by HRACU with the Presidential Award for Excellence.   
 
She served on the Board of Directors of the Human Resource Certification (HRCI), a credentialing body for the HR Profession from 2003-2010; 2010 Governance Committee Chair and 2009 Chair of the Board; 2008 Vice-Chair, 2006-07 Secretary/Treasurer and 2003-05 as Director at Large. She served as a member of the HRCI Western Region Exam Item Writing Panel, writing questions for the PHR/SPHR certification exams.
 
She is currently serving on Salt Lake City’s Citizens’ Compensation Advisory Committee; Western Governors University Business Council Board; Brigham Young University’s OB/HR Advisory Board; and Utah State University’s HR Advisory Board. Formerly, she was appointed by the Governor of Utah to serve on the Executive and Judicial Compensation Committee for eight years. 
One of her volunteer highlights was serving with her husband, Gary, at the Ski Jump Venue during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Park City, Utah.  She enjoys snowmobiling, ATVing, photography, teaching, learning new things, traveling, camping, and spoiling 14 grandchildren.
