She also writes the Trend Watch monthly column appearing in HR Magazine.  Prior to joining SHRM, Jennifer worked as Research and Policy Advisor at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and as Research Manager of the Employment Policy Institute both in London, UK. She received her Master’s Degree in Social and Political Science from the University of Cambridge, UK and her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan.

Rue Dooley has been an HR Knowledge Advisor for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for over 16 years and has over 25 years of HR experience.

In college, as an accounting major, Rue interned with major corporations and worked his way through school from fast food, to dorm RA, to payroll assistant with a state agency. After receiving his B.S., he worked as an accountant, a budget analyst, a meeting planner, payroll specialist, benefits coordinator, and an HR Generalist…mostly all at the same company! 

After managing the HR function for a growing government contractor (from 13 to 100+ employees while he was there), Rue went on to hire school teachers at a major school district. In his current position as an HR Knowledge Advisor for SHRM, Rue has daily direct contact with HR professionals around the world, helping them to create solutions, to improve systems, and to find and use resources that improve the delivery of the HR function. 

Rue has authored and co-authored numerous articles; Designed systems and policies; Created practical tools (including forms, letters, toolkits, and other resources); Conducted webcasts and videos; and has been quoted in various media outlets on a number of HR topics. Rue is SHRM-SCP certified.

Michele Fantt Harris is the Executive Vice President, Human Resources for the National Cooperative Bank in Washington, DC. A seasoned HR professional, Michele has worked in human resources in education, nonprofit, healthcare, and the insurance industries.  Her books, What’s Next in Human Resources (Greyden Press 2015) and Rethinking Human Resources (Red Letter Publishing 2015) are groundbreaking publications for human resources professionals and entrepreneurs.

Active in many human resources organizations, she is a past president of the Human Resources Association of the National Capital Area and the former Black Human Resources Network. A member of the Society for Human Resource Management since 1985, she served on the Society for Human Resource Management national board from 1996 through 2001 and is a past chair of the SHRM Foundation Board of Directors.

Michele completed the Results Systems Coaching program and is an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) through the International Coach Federation and a Certified Career Management Coach (CCMC) through The Academies, Inc. A member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., she served on the board of the Delta Research and Educational Foundation from 2008–2014.

She received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Maryland, a master of administrative science from Johns Hopkins University, and her juris doctorate from the University Of Baltimore School of Law. A certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR), Michele teaches at Prince Georges Community College and Catholic University. Mark J. Schmit, Ph.D., is the Executive Director for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Foundation. In this capacity he leads the Foundation’s efforts to advance the strategic direction and impact of the HR profession. Dr. Schmit was previously the Vice President of Research for SHRM.
