This session provides a new way to understand the important topic of microaggressions from the sender and receiver's point of view. 

In-person session offerings are on a first-come, first-served basis. Seating is limited.

This session will focus on understanding microaggressions through the lens of identity-based trauma and its impact on the receiver. We will explore the latest trauma research to understand better the psychological effects of microaggressions on the receiver, as well as the psychology of the sender. Specifically, we will examine four patterns of perception that unintentionally create harmful behavior and how to identify and address them. By the end of the session, participants will have a new understanding of microaggressions, their impact individually and organizationally, and practical strategies for addressing them in the workplace.

  • Define identity-based trauma.
  • Explain microaggressions through the lens of identity-based trauma.
  • Describe the four patterns of perception that lead to microaggressions.
  • Explain strategies for mitigating the impact of microaggressions in the workplace.
