What is bullying? According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, bullying means the abuse and mistreatment of someone vulnerable by someone stronger, more powerful, etc. Bullying is not simply an early childhood phase that children grow out of as they learn the differences between right and wrong. Bullying shows its presence in all facets of adult society, including the workplace. In some instances, bullying may look the same in schools as it does in the workplace. In other instances, bullying in the workplace takes on more sophisticated, subtle forms. Yet, there is good news: these bullying behaviors can be broken; the cycle of bullying can be stopped. Human beings have the power to change their behavior individually as well as collectively and create an anti-bullying culture.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand and recognize the different forms of bullying.
  • Understand the parallels between bullying in school and bullying in the workplace.
  • Learn interventions and actions to curb bullying behaviors.
  • Learn about the various forms of allyship and encourage a culture of acceptance and belonging.
