Concurrent Session
Do Your Unofficial Childless Employee Policies Impact Your Recruiting and Retention?
Magnolia 8
In-Person Monday 04/17/2023 01:00 PM - 02:00 PM   Add to calendar
Competencies: Interpersonal (Behavioral), Leadership (Behavioral), Workplace (Technical) | Intended Audience: Mid-Level
Workplace Application:
Attendees will learn the difficulties childless employees face in the workplace and how to recruit and retain to address.

Employees who are childless not by choice (CNBC) often feel shame and isolation. They dread small talk at work because of the impending questions about kids but are asked to work on holidays and overtime because they 'don't have children' (and are deemed selfish if they refuse). Total rewards and benefits programs are often tailored to those with families, forcing the question 'where is DEIB for the childless/childfree?' This session will focus on creating a culture that values and respects all employees.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the difference in childless and childfree (and why that matters to your workforce).
  • Understand the prevalence of childlessness in your workforce.
  • Understand why DEIB training should include childless/childfree.
  • Learn tips to build a recruiting and retention program that includes the childless/childfree.

In-person session offerings are on a first-come, first-served basis.
