Workplace Application:
Learn the importance of employee recognition and its role in fostering an inclusive work environment.

This session will highlight the important role recognition plays in advancing diversity and inclusion, showing employees that the diverse perspectives they bring forth within their respective organizations are not just acknowledged but are expected and valued, making them feel appreciated and included regardless of their background. With recognition, diversity and inclusion being central themes in his own life’s journey, Steve will draw upon his personal and professional experiences to illustrate why recognition is crucial to achieving true inclusiveness in the workplace. You will learn:

  • How regularly recognizing employees for their achievements, as well as providing employees with the opportunity to recognize each other, can help employees develop a greater sense of purpose and excitement for their work.
  • The critical role genuine and timely positive reinforcement plays in keeping employees energized and motivated to do their best work.
  • How an organization can avoid slotting its employees into labels by appreciating their diverse perspectives and recognizing them for the value they add. This in turn satisfies employees’ basic human need to be appreciated and included, as well as leads to higher degrees of employee satisfaction and engagement.
  • How supporting, advocating, recognizing and, most importantly, celebrating different employees’ perspectives creates a more-inclusive environment, which in turn helps attract and retain talent, as well as acquire customers and business partners critical to an organization’s success.
  • How a positive experience at work can have a deep and meaningful impact on employees’ personal lives—by providing reassurance that their diversity is a strength and not a setback. Employees will feel more motivated to be their true selves and give their best at work, as well as have increased confidence and enhanced relationships in the personal sphere.
