Assimilation vs. Inclusion
Salons B-D
Wednesday 10/28/2015 09:30 AM - 10:45 AM   Add to calendar
1.25 SHRM PDCs, 1.25 HR Credit | Competencies: Global & Cultural Effectiveness | Intended Audience: Mid-Level
Workplace Application:
You will acquire a new understanding of inclusion, and discuss how to take it back to your organization.

For many organizations, inclusion remains a vague, abstract idea. Leaders are quick to say that they are inclusive, but struggle to explain what exactly that means. Making inclusion tangible in a way that informs behavior is a tipping point for many organizations, and this session is focused on bringing an actionable clarity to the idea of inclusion by comparing it directly to assimilation in order to identify new opportunities for action. This session will help you:

  • Understand the basic characteristics of a culture of assimilation as well as a culture of inclusion.
  • Evaluate your organizational culture on a continuum between assimilation and inclusion.
  • Gather micro, meso and macro practices you can bring back to help move your culture towards greater inclusion.
