Workplace Application:
Discover how unconscious bias—when not uncovered—can be highly detrimental to an organization’s productivity, work culture and bottom line.

Everyone has bias. It is in our DNA—we are all wired to have certain likes, dislikes and preferences. How does this impact the workplace? In this session, the foundations of unconscious bias and the potential negative impact it can have on team dynamics, productivity and overall organizational effectiveness will be explored. You will also get tools and tips to use to battle bias in your work practices. You will:

  • Review 10 key types of unconscious bias that are typically present in decision-making, and examine scenarios in which bias can be a positive or negative.
  • Explore the negative workplace impact by reviewing examples of bias’s impact on wages, promotion rates, recruiting and corporate leadership roles.
  • Learn how to battle bias—focusing on two main areas that you can impact readily—recruiting and internal promotion. Review strategies to debias these processes while allowing for increased diversity.
  • Gain tools to uncover bias in your processes and review an implicit association test, privilege walk, MTV’s Bias Cleanse and other activities to help uncover bias in processes and people.
