1.00 SHRM PDCs | Competencies: Relationship Management, Communication
Workplace Application:
Explore practical examples of how unconscious bias can play out in the workplace in your everyday interactions and communications, and how bias can impact your talent management decisions.
Everyone has bias. It’s a part of the human makeup. But when left unchecked, biases can have a negative impact in every area of talent management. This session will give an overview of how biases play out in the workplace and how they impact your decision-making, particularly in the realms of talent acquisition, talent development and performance management. You will learn how to:

• Define what unconscious bias is and identify how it is developed and internalized.

• Describe how the unconscious mind works (fast brain and slow brain), and how our background and schemas shape our world view.

• Determine how unconscious bias affects decision-making in talent acquisition and performance management.

• Describe ways to mitigate the negative impacts of unconscious bias in our decision-making.
