As of mid 2015, 11 cities and four states have passed legislation with another 12 states that have legislation actually prohibiting local governments from passing paid leave legislation. It's a hodge podge for HR departments who are increasingly confused about how to remain in compliance with the myriad of rules that are not consistent from one location to the next. This session will provide you with:
- A description of the current paid sick leave laws, including employer and employee eligibility, methods for accrual, timing, usage, carry over, pay out, and penalties for non-compliance.
- An understanding of ow the new law impacts current vacation and PTO plans.
- An understanding how the new law interacts with other mandated leaves (pregnancy, FMLA, etc.).
- Unique challenges for employers with staff who live in one location and work in another.
- Pitfalls to avoid in getting a compliant policy for your organization.
