A recent survey by Bersin & Associates found that 34 percent of all HR and business leaders cited “driving innovation” as one of their top three talent challenges, up from only 14 percent earlier in the year. In another survey of chief global HR executives, conducted by IBM’s Institute for Business Value, one of the biggest opportunities identified for HR to address key workforce gaps was cultivating creative leaders – finding people who can more nimbly lead in complex, global environments. Yet companies which downsized over the last few years have frightened employees from taking risks and making bold moves. Most organizations have had to focus on operational performance and efficiencies, layoffs, and cost controls.
