Roman Ballroom 1-2
Tuesday 04/16/2024 04:15 PM - 05:15 PM   Add to calendar
Competencies: Business (Behavioral), Interpersonal (Behavioral), People (Technical) | Intended Audience: Mid-Level
Workplace Application:
Learn how to modernize talent management with a focus on skills for more flexible, inclusive evaluation of what people are truly capable of delivering at work.

Organizations are increasingly realizing that university degrees and years of experience aren't the only way to evaluate someone's capabilities, and in fact these requirements can limit the diverse mix of applicants for roles. Alternative credentials and skills-based talent management are offering new pathways to show what someone can deliver, particularly for candidates from diverse backgrounds. This workshop will explore how HR, hiring managers, and DEI practitioners can proactively develop more flexible, inclusive job qualifications.

Learning Objectives:

  • Why traditional requirements may unintentionally discourage or disenfranchise applicants from diverse communities.
  • How to consider alternatives to traditional qualifications, like certifications and skills assessments.
  • How to overhaul job descriptions and promotion criteria for more flexible, inclusive qualifications.
  • Strategies for proactively working with hiring managers and SMEs.
