Hiding in the Shadows: 6 Hidden Hazards to Psychological Health and Safety and What to Do About It
Red Rock 2-3
In-Person Monday 04/11/2022 04:00 PM - 05:00 PM   Add to calendar
Competencies: Business (Behavioral), Interpersonal (Behavioral), Leadership (Behavioral)
Workplace Application:
Attendees will learn to apply these tools at their companies to uncover dysfunction that may be holding the organization back or putting it at risk.

In 1925, Mary Van Kleeck identified managerial connection, role context, and job security as 3 failures in organizations. Nearly 100 years later, Google and Re:Work produced results from their 2-year study of what makes teams successful, identifying psychological safety as the most critical differentiator in high performing teams. And, just this summer, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) produced the first global standard and guidelines for managing psychosocial health and safety in the workplace.

While many academic studies have shown a direct correlation between fostering psychological safety and innovation, worker commitment and retention, and team effectiveness, the US is nearly a decade behind countries like Canada, Australia and the UK on taking action. In this session, we will review 6 hidden hazards to psychological safety and share proven tactics to identify and address them to help organizations thrive and help teams flourish.

Learning Objectives:

  • Hear why psychological safety matters for your business (and why it isn't the same as being nice).
  • Discuss the global standards for psychological health and safety identified in the ISO45003.
  • Review common hazards to psychological safety in the workplace.
  • Learn approaches and potential action plans for addressing these hazards to help organizations thrive.
