Bettina Deynes, vice president, Human Resources , SHRM
Lisa Ling, acclaimed journalist, OWN & CNN
Monday, October 23 9:00 A.M. – 10:45 A.M. EDT

Hear from SHRM's VP, Human Resources & Diversity, Bettina Deynes and award-winning journalist, Lisa Ling (the executive producer and host of This is Life With Lisa Ling on CNN).

Open Heart, Open Mind
Lisa Ling uses her role as a journalist to focus on positive social change. As a child, Lisa grew up without a lot of money in an entirely nondiverse community. The only Asian person she saw on television was Connie Chung, and Ling sought out a career like hers. Becoming a journalist allowed Ling to be exposed to things that never in her wildest dreams did she think she would experience. She will discuss how the world to which she was introduced changed her and propelled her on a course to change the way people think about each other. She will talk about how journalism plays an important role in the world around us and how, as times continue to change, it can be a force for propelling the world forward in new and positive ways.

Tony Byers, Ph.D., director, Global Diversity & Inclusion, Starbucks
