1.00 SHRM PDCs | Competencies: Critical Evaluation, HR Expertise | Intended Audience: Mid-Level
Workplace Application:
Learn how to think and act differently when reference checking, since this practice has advanced beyond verifying job titles and dates of employment.

In this session, you will learn which reference-checking myths might be true and which are false. The data sources used to validate or disprove the myths are scientific research based on feedback from tens of thousands of job references as well as recent technological innovations. During this session we'll share how using the latest technology advances will help your organization reduce time-to-hire while increasing their value to the organization.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how advances in technology, the legal system and behavioral science have revolutionized the process of reference checking during the hiring process.
  • Based on information contained in the world's largest database of job reference feedback, both quantitative and qualitative (narrative), you will find out which types of information are most predictive of future work outcomes.
  • Not everyone who is asked to be a reference actually complies with the request. You will hear new and as yet unpublished research that explores reasons for why job references do and do not comply when they are asked to provide a reference. These findings have direct impact on initiatives to improve quality of hire.
